ARTS FOR THE AGES

Overview

A major Initiative of the National Commission on Arts and Letters is Project ART: Actively Redefining Together. This initiative was designed as a collective effort to support, nurture, and uplift positive programming while rejecting demeaning and harmful images in all forms of entertainment and media e.g. music, film, radio, television, and print.

Story

The Mission of the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter  (BAC) Arts and Letters Committee is directly aligned with that of the National Commission.  The National focus along with BAC strives to promote a positive image of African Americans and other minorities in our community through the medium of music, art, dance, drama, and poetry. We promote and attend various  “Red Carpet Movies” that have included Selma, Race, Southside with You, Hidden Figures, and The Birth of A Nation.  Our upcoming Red Carpet Movie will be the premier of the Thurgood Marshall movie entitled Marshall.

The committee also promotes worthwhile cultural endeavors and artists through its annual Afternoon Tea, book signings, theatre outings, museum visits, book clubs and artists’ showcases.  In an upcoming book webinar we will promote the book Not an Ordinary Hook Up, the story of the courtship of Soror Vashti Turley and Carl Murphy.

The Baltimore Alumnae Chapter is committed to bringing forth activities and events which positively affect, and uplift the African American community.
