The First Chapter In the State of Maryland

Epsilon Sigma, Baltimore’s graduate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was chartered in 1922 by Vashti T. Murphy, Margarite Paige, Meta A. Redden, Louise H. Cook, Irene K. Triggs and two associate members. Delta women of Epsilon Sigma were committed educators who demonstrated professionalism as they actively participated in improving the social conditions of the time.

In 1956, Epsilon Sigma was renamed the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter (BAC). We are the first chapter in the state of Maryland. For 99 years, the women of Baltimore Alumnae have carried the torch of the founders in implementing programs in education, housing and urban development, economic development, mental and physical health, political and social action, and international awareness.

We are located in an enterprise zone with neighbors that are economically at or below the national poverty level. A significant number of our neighbors live in low income or transitional housing. In addition, a disproportionate number of our youth have either dropped out of school and/or are economically disenfranchised. The Southern Park Heights Community in which we reside is in desperate need of more programs and activities that will enrich the lives of neighbors and address their growing concerns and unmet needs.

The Baltimore Alumnae Chapter is doing our part in empowering our community through committed service.
