For decades, the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has been
dedicated to uplifting the Baltimore community through educational support and empowerment.
Our scholarships are designed to recognize academic excellence, leadership, and service, while
providing financial assistance to deserving students pursuing higher education.

The Vashti Turley Murphy
Memorial Scholarship for Excellence

Vashti Turley Murphy Scholarship

Applications Open: February 15, 2026
Deadline to Apply: March 31, 2026

Named in honor of our Founder and esteemed Charter Member, this prestigious $2,000
renewable scholarship supports exceptional students from Baltimore City and Baltimore
County. In addition to financial support, recipients benefit from personalized mentorship by a
member of the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter, designed to guide them through their academic
journey and foster their success.​

Interviews for finalists will take place during the week of April 13, 2026. Recipients will be notified by June 30, 2026. > Be a graduating high school senior residing in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. > Be an African American female or male reflecting the predominantly African American heritage of the sorority. > Plan to enroll in a four-year college or university for the upcoming academic year. > Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on your official high school transcript for initial eligibility. > Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher each semester and continuous enrollment at your four-year college or university. > Commit to submitting grades and academic updates annually to maintain the scholarship. **Exception: Children and grandchildren of Baltimore Alumnae Chapter members are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The Red Torch Scholarship

The Red Torch Scholarship is a one-time $2,000 award for graduating high school seniors who reside in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. This scholarship celebrates students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement, supporting their journey to a brighter future.

Eligibility

> Must be a graduating high school senior residing in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. > Must be an African American student reflecting the predominantly African American heritage of the sorority. > Applicants must enroll in a four-year college, community college, or vocational school for the upcoming academic year as a full-time student. > A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher is required. > Consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need. > A demonstrated commitment to community service and extracurricular activities is strongly encouraged. **Exception: Children and grandchildren of Baltimore Alumnae Chapter members are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
