Resources for Federal Workers and Contractors
Support Resources for Maryland Workers Affected by Federal Government Transition
The Maryland Department of Labor (MD Labor) has developed a suite of resources to assist Maryland workers impacted by the federal government transition, including federal employees and contractors. Please share these resources with community members in need.
Resource Pages
MD Labor Resource Page: Offers information on unemployment insurance benefits and reemployment support, including FAQs, application portals, and frequently requested flyers.
Governor Moore’s Resources for Impacted Workers: Provides legal resources, details on federal employment regulations, and information on county programs.
Eligibility: Federal civilian employees who are unemployed through no fault of their own may apply for Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE). Other workers affected by federal actions, such as private-sector employees of federal contractors, may qualify for regular unemployment insurance. Eligible individuals can receive up to $430 in weekly benefits (pre-tax).
Application Process: Apply for benefits in the jurisdiction of your duty station. For example, Maryland residents laid off from a federal job in Virginia should apply in Virginia. Direct application links are available for Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
Unemployment Insurance Phone Line
Application Assistance: File online or call 667-207-6520, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Federal workers should select option #9.
